PINAY CRABS, VAMPIRES IN US WORKPLACES
The million shoes of Imelda
stacked in gleaming steel ladders
arranged like a pyramid,
the Aswan Dam crumbling down
like a house of Pasuquin salt.
In black and white,
the photo serrated
a face contorted
in pain.
She was shouting
again, delirious in her dream:
the bronze-winged Pinay vampire--
cavernous mouth dripping, dripping
with blood--
chasing her
in and out
in and out
of the hospital.
And she saw a jackfruit
caramelized into the guayabano leaves
in the old country.
