PRIEST ASSIGNMENT A PUNISHMENT?
The priest who padlocked the Oscariz Roman Catholic Church in Oscariz, Ramon, Isabela in May last year has been assigned to an obscure chapel in Binmaley, Pangasinan. Parishioners have found Fr. Michael Linga, then Parish Priest of Ramon town. abrasive and arrogant. We interviewed him at the Parish house in Ramon town and we were disappointed at his behavior. His traits are uncharacteristic of a man of God. We wrote about the padlocked church--the first time it was closed in its more than a century of existence- in the Philippine Daily Inquirer and people reacted to it. There were discussions in national radio stations about a priest's right to padlock a church when there are disagreements between him and his parishioners, in this case members of the Basic Ecclesiastical Community. He was living it up in Ramon then, and even had a top of the line Mitsubishi Estrada for his service vehicle. Anyway, some people are saying that his assignment is a kind of punishment, for was he not a town parish priest with some privileges?
